no way, fuck off man... ive done a lot of soldering before always managed to fix by swiping it but now on a project where i cant see the spacing of the pins without a digital microscope i had a fat bridge and i had wick unused for years and after 2 hours of tearing my hair off not getting anywhere i decide to find information that i might not already know and your fucking telling me the all i had to do was turn the heat up a bit more then id usually use on the tin directly..... it took me under 5 seconds fixing this and it pissed me off to oblivion, i wasn't relieved i was annoyed, mostly at my own stupidity because this makes perfect sense

Hi and thank's for your video. Il think you put too much flux. You'v got long soldering pads, may be better for hand soldering, long but thin, and you could unstick them because your too long to solder. Also note that there are QFN packages with only 4 pins each side and you put too mutch tin on your wave iron. The way you do with these chips it would be a mess and finally a single short through. I Think you must also own a smaller wave pin to achieve better job. Lower a bit temp, and not feeding the iron wave each time : flux will prevent tin to burn if temperature isn't too hight. We learn by doing. Have fun!

Yep. Brass wool is the way to go. Brass works so well because it's softer than the iron/Nickel coating, and can't scratch or damage it. Brass also loves to absorb the excess solder. I don't use sponges because I think the thermal shock will cause delamination of the iron/copper plating. Also, I tried buying those copper/brass scrubbies at Wal-Mart. I found out, they aren't copper or brass. You have to test them with a magnet. Some brands are just colored steel. They will work, but not as well as true brass wool. Another thing I avoid is leaving my soldering iron on for hours on end. Cooking the tip unused, for hours is bad for building up corrosion. I only do option 2 in the video. NEVER scrape or sand the tip. This will ruin the iron/nickel/chrome plating. Also, the guy in the video was cleaning the sides of the tip. You don't really care about the sides. Only the silver part at the end that is 'wettable'.

If the oxidation is bad, remove the tip, put it in a handheld drill or a drill press and give it some 600 grit sandpaper. Then give a little dab of flux and a thin coating of solder. always works.

I've been wondering what to use to apply solder, and it looks like a toothpick is a great solution! At least I think it was a toothpick in this video. I didn't want to use my tweezers like I've seen others do - just didn't want to get them dirty.
